HBC/GM DISTRIBUTION FACILITY

FDG performed a distribution planning study to determine the most efficient and cost effective configuration for A&P’s new HBC/GM distribution facility.  The study included all items currently carried in health and beauty care, general merchandise, spice lines and seasonal categories.  In addition, A&P was strongly considering self distribution of cigarettes and tobacco, therefore, it was included in the study.

  • Developed several material handling configurations
  • Through rigorous analysis and review, selected the pick-to-belt  mezzanine system utilizing replenishment aisles which lead to less labor and  a more efficient operation
  • Designed a bin configuration on the fourth level of the selection module to allow for a efficient method for handling the slowest of slow movers
  • Developed tote washing and automatic tote palletization  based on the latest and best industry practices
  • Designed racking and floor stack areas to handle case picking and seasonal good respectively
