To implement its aggressive distribution and supply chain management strategy, OfficeMax, Inc., a major retailer in office products, selected FDG to provide planning, site selection, designing, engineering and construction management services for a 585,000-SF greenfield distribution complex in Hazleton, PA.

  • 52 acre site designed to meet the distribution mix of OTR, receiving and dedicated fleet transportation carrier requirements.
  • Top of product design is 35’ with 45’ roof height .
  • 50’ receiving dock and a 75’ shipping dock provides space for product staging and cross docking.
  • 18,500 SF office space houses a data processing department, dispatch, breakrooms and restrooms.
  • Facility wide early suppression fast response (ESFR) fire protection system in accordance with FM data sheet 2-2 and NFPA 13.
  • Extensive material handling system utilizing piece-pick case flow and cross docking modules being inducted via a 4:1 combined merging system feeding the slat-shoe sortation system.
  • Fast-track design and construction approach completed in October 1999 (Five month construction schedule).

McCalla, AL

To implement its aggressive distribution and supply chain management strategy, OfficeMax, Inc., a major retailer in office products, selected FDG to provide planning, site selection, design, engineering and construction management services for a 600,312-SF greenfield distribution complex in McCalla, AL. This is the second regional distribution center completed by FDG for OfficeMax within a five-month construction schedule.

  • 58 acre site designed to meet the distribution mix of OTR, receiving and dedicated fleet transportation carrier requirements.
  • Top of product design is 35’ with 45’ roof height.
  • 50’ receiving dock and a 75’ shipping dock provides space for product staging and cross docking.
  • 23,305-SF office space houses a data processing department, dispatch, breakrooms and restrooms.
  • Facility wide early suppression fast response (ESFR) fire protection system in accordance with FM data sheet 2-2 and NFPA 13.
  • Extensive material handling system utilizing piece-pick case flow and cross docking modules being inducted via a 4:1 combined merging system feeding the slat-shoe sortation system.
